No Limits Youth Empowerment Day 2011
October 27th was a day to be remembered this year! With Simon Jackson delivering an inspiring message that encouraged the youth to make a difference no matter what their age to start the day and engaging workshops to follow including Sliced, where the youth created a healthy meal and then were judged by real chefs, it was intense! Also Andrew Phung and Mary Zoliewski from Calgary’s Youth Central joined us to talk with the youth about being involved in their community. A panel of 9 career people also had the opportunity to talk with the youth about their career choices. The youth also had the chance to plan an event that they would like to see happen here in Fort McMurray and the winning event will go ahead and the youth who had that idea will be involved in planning and organizing the event! There were 3 media workshops that included TV, Newspaper and Radio where the youth developed commercials that were actually aired. In the Healthy Relationships workshop the youth discussed a range of topics such as bullying, dating, and family relationships. The day was jam packed full of fun, GREAT FOOD, and awesome prizes and giveaways! A huge shout out to everyone involved, and to our sponsors The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, SNC Lavalin O&M, CNRL, The Merit Hotel and Suites, and McMurray Limo!
